Welcome

Welcome to the web site of the Franciscans of Reconciliation. We're delighted that you found your way to us!

We are men and women, lay and clergy, single and married/partnered who are committed to living the Gospel of Jesus Christ following the examples of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi. We are scattered across the United States, involved in a variety of ministries, yet united as a single community with a common Rule and a common commitment to reconciliation, peace and justice, and the integrity of creation.

We are a canonical religious order of the Ecumenical Catholic Communion (ECC), committed to the support and development of that part of the Body of Christ in all that we do. If you are here as a member or leader of an ECC parish, please let us know how we can serve your community in its spiritual growth. If you are here considering your own possible vocation to the Franciscan life, please explore this site and contact us so that we can join with you in the discernment process.

Whether you are a member of the Franciscans of Reconciliation or simply a friend, know that we are here as your Franciscan family to encourage you and support you in your journey with Jesus Christ.

Peace and all good,

Fr. Fred Ball
Minister General

Mission statement

We, the Franciscans of Reconciliation of the Ecumenical Catholic Communion, are called to respond to the words of our Lord spoken to Francis of Assisi to "rebuild my Church" by living out the Gospel in our everyday lives and following the example of our founder.  In this we strive to be reconcilers with our brothers and sisters and with all of creation which has been misused through sin. With Franciscan joy we go forward to proclaim the Good News, using words only when necessary and asking the Lord, "Make us instruments of your peace.”

A resource for the Church

The Franciscans of Reconciliation exist as a resource for you and your parish. There are a number of ways that we make ourselves available to faith communities across the country. Our members are available to lead quiet days and retreats, teaching missions, and workshops.

From our rule
9. As members of the Franciscans of Reconciliation, with a gentle and courteous spirit, we accept all people as a gift of the Lord and an image of Christ. A sense of community will make us joyful and ready to place ourselves on an equal basis with all people, especially with the lowly for whom we shall strive to create conditions of life worthy of people redeemed by Christ.
Saint of the Day
  • St. Philip Neri
Philip Neri was a sign of contradiction, combining popularity with piety against the background of a corrupt Rome and a disinterested clergy, the whole post-Renaissance malaise.

At an early age, he abandoned the chance to become a businessman, moved to Rome from Florence and devoted his life and individuality to God. ...
